Computer Upgrades and Overhauls

As well as computer repairs, Tendo Computers provides PC and Laptop Computer upgrade services for businesses as well as residential customers.

If you feel that your Desktop PC or Laptop Computer is running slowly and needs a tune up, please get in touch to discuss the problem. In most occasions the purchase of a new computer can be avoided by upgrading components or restoring the Windows Operating System. This can be done at a fraction of the cost of a new laptop or computer system.

Depending on the original cost of your PC or Laptop Computer, it is likely that the manufacturer will have kept the initial specification to a minimum. However, there will almost always be provision for an upgrade to the memory (RAM).

In addition, changing your disk storage from a virtually obsolete Hard Drive to an SSD will make a significant speed difference. Making such upgrades can often vastly improve your computer's performance and give it a new lease of life.

  • SSD (Solid State Drive) installations
  • Memory (RAM) upgrades
  • Video card upgrades (graphics)
  • Windows Operating System updates

We can inspect your Desktop PC or Laptop Computer at your office or home and give an honest, jargon-free opinion about whether your system is worth upgrading.  Also, we’ll be on the look-out for other issues which may be making your computer run slower than normal, such as viruses, malware or conflicting software. If we diagnose these, it may be possible to carry out a deep-clean to improve your computer's performance without even upgrading the hardware.

Will you take my computer away?

We aim to solve all your computer problems at your business/home premises. However, in some circumstances your equipment may need taken to our workshop. This might be for installing replacement components where anti-static precautions need to be taken, or if time-consuming malware scanning and removal is required.

Technical FAQs

What is an SSD?

A solid-state drive (SSD) is a new generation of storage device used in computers. SSDs use flash-based memory, which is significantly faster than traditional hard disk drives (HDDs).
SSDs speed up computers significantly due to their low read-access times and fast throughputs. They can be 5 to 20 times faster than HDDs and have no moving parts and are therefore less likely to fail than HDDs which are mechanical devices.

What is RAM?

Random access memory (RAM) is your computer’s short-term memory. None of your programs, files, or streaming services would work without RAM. In general, the more RAM your computer has, the faster it will run.

If your computer were an office – think of RAM as desk space. The bigger your desk, the more space you have to place documents and other items i.e. the more RAM your computer has, the more tasks you can carry out and the faster your computer can run.

Microsoft recommends 2GB (gigabytes) RAM as the minimum amount required to run Windows 10 (64-bit). We would always recommend 4GB as a better starting point but 8GB would be a worthwhile investment.

To find out how much your Windows 10 computer has; Press the Windows key (bottom left of your keyboard, next to Ctrl), type ram, and select the View RAM info option in the search results.

Tendo Computers can upgrade RAM and other computer components. Our Computer Overhaul service can give your computer a new lease of life. Find out more here.

What is the difference between Hardware and Software?

Computer hardware is any physical component, or combination of components, which become a computer or part of a computer. Software runs on the hardware. It is a collection of programs and code installed onto a computer.
The easiest way to remember the difference – you can physically touch hardware, you can’t touch software.
